Maria Victoria González (top right), a former Partners of the Americas Youth Ambassador (YA), visited Northwest Arkansas to connect with three of her fellow Venezuelan YAs before travelling to Boston for orientation at the Berklee College of Music.
Ms. González, who hails from Guárico State, was one of five YAs from Venezuela who joined five others from Colombia when our chapter last hosted Youth Ambassadors.
Ms. González is the fourth of the five 2017 Venezuelans to attend college in the United States. Her three friends in Northwest Arkansas — Paola Delgado from Yaracuy State, Rafael Rasse from Cumana State, and Estefanía Lanz from Anzoátegui State — are students at Northwest Arkansas Community College and plan to continue their studies at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Ms. González’ dream of attending Berklee is made possible by a full-tuition scholarship. She will pursue a bachelor’s degree in Music Production and Engineering.
Many of our members recall hearing Ms. González sing and play the “Cuatro” — a testimony to her exceptional talents as a singer and harpist.
Securing financing for her education required three years of persistence and dedication. Thanks to the generosity of her fellow YAs and the host family of her “bestie” Estefanía, Ms. González was gifted with flights to Arkansas and Boston. Ms. González’ housing in Boston has been arranged by acquaintances from Venezuela, who live close to Berklee and the metro! A charming situation indeed for a charming young artist: well earned, Maria Victoria!
