One of the Chapter's most successful ongoing collaborations connects music students from Bolivia with the Music Department at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in Conway. A $500.00 scholarship is provided annually to promising Bolivian musicians studying their craft at UCA. In 2021, the Dr. Kay Kraeft Music Scholarship was founded by the Arkansas East-Bolivia Partners of the Americas, Inc. in honor of Dr. Kraeft's service to the Partners organization and her dedication to assist Bolivian musicians to study at the University of Central Arkansas Department of Music.
Dr. Kay Kraeft, who served as Professor of Voice at UCA for over 20 years, was a leader in making the collaboration a success. After retiring from UCA, Dr. Kraeft continued to travel and recruit on behalf of the UCA Music Department. Dr. Kraeft has long been a member of Partners of the Americas. Working with Bolivian partners, Dr. Kraeft has actively recruited scores of Bolivian musicians to study at UCA. The Arkansas Partners Chapter wishes to honor the work of Dr. Kraeft and continue her efforts to support Bolivian musicians and their study at the University of Central Arkansas. Abraham Martinez Brito, a junior violin major at the University of Central Arkansas, was chosen to receive the first Dr. Kay Kraeft Music Scholarship Award. Abraham is from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and has been studying at UCA since 2019. Jackie Lamar, Director-at-Large for Central Arkansas, has prepared a video introducing Abraham. We invite you to have a look and listen!
